Tour 1 - Mont Ventoux - 110km - Cost**: 350€ Leave your accommodation at 9.30am. Drive to
Malaucène via
Vaison-la-Romaine. Climb from 400m to 1000m stop at the first viewpoint looking northwards. Quick tour of the
Mont Serein ski-resort at 1450m (empty in the summer); Continue to the summit of
Mont Ventoux at 1909m 3 separate viewpoints; Down the south side 6km to the
Châlet Reynard at 1440m for lunch; Otherwise a picnic spot is possible on the way down; Continue down to
Bédoin at 400m 30 minute walk around the village; Return to
Nyons 6.30pm latest via Malaucène & Vaison-la-Romaine.
Tour 2 Vaison-la-Romaine plus Grignan or Nyons
approx 60km or 40km - Cost**: 330€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30amDrive to
Vaison-la-Romaine 2 hour visit to the twin Roman town sites Puymin & Villasse plus the Roman theatre and Museum. Lunch or picnic in Vaison according to your budget. Walk to the Romanesque bridge and inside the Medieval city. Drive to
Grignan or Nyons. Visit the Château de Grignan (memories of Mme la Marquise de Sévigné)
or Nyons old town, the 600 year-old bridge,
olive press & museum, Place de la Libération. Return to your accommodation 6.30pm latest.
Tour 3 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas & other vineyards - approx 150km - Cost**: 350€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30amDrive to
Châteauneuf-du-Pape via OrangeVisit the Château ruins, the village and
wine-tasting cellars. Lunch or picnic in the village. Drive to Beaumes-de-Venise taste the
Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. Drive to
Vacqueras visit the village plus wine-tasting. Drive to
Gigondas - final wine tasting, or perhaps bottle your own wine. Return to your accommodation via
Séguret arriving 6.30pm latest.
Note: If you are true wine lovers, at each producer we visit, “dégustation” (wine-tasting) is offered free, but you would be expected to purchase at least one bottle from each vineyard. You have weight restrictions for your return flight, so I recommend you undertake this tour at the beginning of your vacation and enjoy most of your purchases during your stay in Provence don’t worry, I’m driving!!!
Tour 4 Glorious Avignon -
approx 150km - Cost**: 350€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30amDrive to
Avignon via Malaucène. At least 2 hours visiting the 14
th century
Pope's Palace with an Audio-guide in English. Lunch with hundreds of tourists in the Place de l’Horloge.
Note: A picnic is not easy in town. Walk to Rocher des Doms, onto
Ramparts and other highlights , the
Pont St Bénézet (the famous bridge), along the bank of the Rhône, back into the centre for shopping or your particular requests. Drive all round the ramparts then to Nyons via the
Dentelles de Montmirail if time; Return to your accommodation arriving 6.30pm latest.
Tour 5 Orange & Pont du Gard - 170km - Cost**: 350€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30amDrive to
Orange briefly stopping at the original Roman
Arc de Triomphe. Continue to one of the world’s most impressive
Roman Theater. Full 90 minute visit with audio-guide in English including the Museum. Lunch or picnic in Orange according to your budget. Drive to the
Pont du Gard - Full 2 hour visit (considerable walking is necessary); Return to your accommodation arriving 6.30pm latest.
Tour 6 Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes & Roussillon - approx 200km - Cost**: 370€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30am. Drive to
Isle-sur-la-Sorgue via Malaucène and Carpentras. Drive through this town with its famous Sunday Antiques Market (stop if Sunday). Continue to
Fontaine de Vaucluse for complete visit (30 minute walk) & lunch (fresh trout!) or a picnic. Drive to
Gordes with a brief visit of this beautiful village. Continue to
Roussillon & visit the ancient natural ochre quarries (you can purchase natural multicolored ochre pigments as ideal souvenirs for artists). Return by the same route to your accommodation arriving 6.30pm latest.
Tour 7 Gorges de l’Ardèche - app. 200km - Cost**: 360€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30am. Drive to the entrance of the
Gorges de l'Ardèche via Bollène & Pont-St-Esprit. Continue along the Panoramic Road stopping at all the Belvédères (view-points). Lunch or picnic at
Vallon-Pont d'Arc Then relax a while at the Pont d’Arc. Afternoon your choice of Canoeing on the river, visiting the exhibition of the
Chauvet-Pont d'Arc Cave, visiting the magnificent
Aven d'Orgnac (temperature 13°C/55°F) or returning along the Panoramic Road. Return to your accommodation arriving 6.30pm latest.
Tour 8 Vultures above Rémuzat + Vieux Sahune approx 60km - Cost**: 330€
Leave your accommodation at 9.30am. Drive to the parking place above
St May. Walk 30 minutes each way to vulture viewpoint on a cliff-top above Rémuzat. Watch & photograph vultures in flight above and below you. Lunch or picnic in Rémuzat. Visit
Rémuzat tourist office with museum of vultures (closed Mondays). Drive to the old abandoned village of
Sahune. Explanation of the history of the village. Return to your accommodation arriving 6.30pm latest.
